Commissioner for Human Rights at Council for Europe calls for more protection

Commissioner Hammarberg has said that it is time for human rights principles to recognise sexual orientation and gender identity. (See Craigs Blog) In April, he also called for more protection from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity saying "Since I took up the office, I have been quite horrified by the extent of homophobia in a number of countries in Europe”, said the Commissioner in a video message shown at a Conference organised by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons (LGBT).
